It is a tendency amongst the youth to be popular in their university and get all the adulation from their friends. In fact, a number of students go to the extent of doing things that they think will attract others, by portraying a ‘cool’ behaviour and personality. Now- a- days, with the advent of social media and social networking, the focus is also shifting online, with several youngsters aiming to carve out a brand image amongst others from their university.

If you are one out of them and want to establish a name in your university or school or college or institute, blogging can help you realize your goal. There are few ways in which blogging can help you create a name and gain popularity within the university.

• Showcasing your writing skills:

I always believe that effective writing is a skill. Not all possess the ability to write quality articles and stories that would capture readers’ attention. So, if you have it in you and believe in your ability to write, start straight away by blogging on topics that interest you. Next, spread the word amongst your friends and let people know about your latest activity. They would be stunned knowing the hidden skill in you. In case you are not good at writing, don’t lose hope. You can always learn and practice different ways to become a writer.

• Sharing your thoughts:

Sometimes, it becomes difficult for people to identify the ‘real’ you. They may know you as a great flirt, a geek, a brat, a bully, a shy or a bore person. However, what they might not know is that you are a person with great thoughts and philosophy. Once they come to know about your thoughts about a particular topic, for example the environment, various gadgets, life, love and dating, sports, society, etc. they would be amazed at your thinking and approach towards that subject. This will make them erase all the wrong notions that they have about you, and accept you as a great person or friend with clear thoughts and ideas. Also, when you discuss interesting topics, chances are high that people (including professors) in the university will access your blog regularly to read what you have written.

Helping others:

Once people come to know about the benefits of blogging and are genuinely interested in writing but do not know how to blog, they will surely ask for your help. This would be a great opportunity for you to help them create their own blog and show your ‘helping nature’. Another way of looking at it is that people will approach you directly and start a conversation, which may lead to friendship over time.

Blogging is a wonderful way to get connected with people. By being consistent and reliable, you can carve out a niche in your area of subject and gain popularity with people around you. So, in case you have not started with a blog yet, act quickly and work towards creating a powerful image in your university.
