Businesses, average citizens, Hollywood superstars, sportsmen, and now Bollywood celebrities; the Twitter phenomenon is experiencing rapid growth amongst the top-notch personalities across the world. It has just been over a month, and Priyanka Chopra – a prominent celebrity from the Indian film industry – has become the latest sensation on Twitter.

Twitter Records Fastest Growth in the UK

twitter_logoAccording to the latest figures released by Internet statistics firm Hitwise, Twitter has recorded a phenomenal growth in the UK. The micro-blogging site has popularized amongst the UK masses to such an extent that it attracted traffic 22-fold in just a year, being the fastest amongst all other sites.

With an increasing number of celebrities and top-notch personalities becoming members of Twitter since the last year, the site has gained tremendous media exposure. This exposure has helped it amass a number of new users and jump from its 969th position in 2008 to 38th in the UK today for generating traffic. Microsoft Integrates Twitter and Facebook with Xbox Live

xbox-twitter-facebookSoftware giant Microsoft Inc. announced recently that social networking superstars Twitter and Facebook, together with Internet radio Last.fm are coming to the Xbox 360 gaming console. The announcements were made on the eve of a major Electronic Entertainment Expo trade gathering in Los Angeles, U.S.

Social networking and Xbox Live enthusiasts have a reason to celebrate as they will be able to access their Facebook and Twitter accounts through consoles. Twitter in No Hurry for Ads, Plans to Increase Staff

twitterWhile most of the social networking firms are worried about gaining advertisements at the moment, there is one social network that is keeping its cool and focusing on building a strong foundation. Twitter, a barely 2 to 3 years old company, is still finding ways to earn money, but not considering too much about advertising at this point of time, according to a news story at Reuters.

Twitter is developing various add-on tools and services to cater to its professional set of users including businesses, in order to create a revenue stream for the company, said co-founder Biz Stone. However, he rebuffed the idea of selling ads on the site currently, in spite of the fact that ad revenue is crucial to manage a Web business while keeping services free for the users.

Just few days back, Facebook crossed the 200-million-users mark and extended its lead from arch-rival MySpace. And now, it is Twitter that has entered the arena and doing exceedingly well in just a short span of time. The micro-blogging and social networking site has accumulated a staggering 17 million U.S. visitors in April and grown 3000% compared to a year ago. That’s indeed massive!

Google Interested to Acquire Twitter

But today, with the likes of Facebook, MySpace, Orkut, Friendster, etc. it is extremely difficult to start one right from scratch. Probably, this is one of the reasons why search leader Google is eyeing Twitter, a rapidly growing micro-blogging and social networking site.

According to reports, acquiring Twitter will strengthen Google’s ability to expand its advertising and social networking platform. The buyout deal, which will include millions of dollars, will help Google add another business vertical that will cater to the social networking needs of its users, and assist advertisers to better their reach.

Reportedly, Twitter turned down Facebook’s offer worth half a billion dollar, which was made up of Facebook’s stock in November last year.
