Bebo Joins the Mobile Social Networking Bandwagon
Posted by Vaibhav Kalamdani on February 3, 2009
Recognizing the tremendous potential for mobile social networking in the future, social network Bebo has announced plans to maximize its service availability. The new Bebo Open Mobile Programme is an initiative that provides operators with tools to allow customers access the Bebo site.
The platform not only aims to support network operators, but also handset makers and mobile software developers to increase Bebo’s mobile usage and encourage them to distribute and monetize its service. The Bebo Open Mobile partners will get access to Bebo’s 50 million plus active users and will collaborate with the social network to deliver social networking experiences and tailored content to their users.
As social networks gain popularity via mobile phones, Bebo plans to emerge out as the leader in the long run. As a step towards this endeavor, Bebo Open Mobile can prove to be a strong platform to expand the power of social networking to the targeted members, and ultimately to the end consumers.
Benefits to the Partners:
• Create a Bebo mobile site with tailored navigation, mobile advertising support and improved statistics
• Get empowered with Bebo’s Mobile Development API (Application Programming Interface) toolkit to create applications, widgets and other interfaces to cater to the Bebo community directly
• Avail the Mobile Messaging toolkit directly to enjoy two-way messaging through the messaging interfaces used mostly by Bebo users
Before, Bebo had introduced an online Open Media Platform in 2007, which became quite popular around few parts of the world. Now with the mobile version, it will be interesting to see how well it (Bebo Open Mobile) gets accepted by the users and whether it will help Bebo achieve its objective to rule the mobile social networking world.
